03-17-14 PTRAB Voice to the community SNOWMASS VILLAGE March 17, 2014 To the members of the Town Council, Thank you for allowing PTRAB to be a voice of the community! At our last meeting, Monday, March 10`h, we wrote this letter for me to present to the Council as a public non-agenda item. 1. The Ice Age Discovery Center-We feel that our Ziegler Reservoir fossil discovery of 2010 is a unique and valuable asset that no other resort can boast. We also have observed that expeditious forward action to make the Discovery Center a viable and valuable attraction here in Snowmass Village has stalled since responsibility for this project was transferred by the Town to an outside non-profit board. Tom Cardamone is a knowledgeable and valuable leader needed to move this project forward but he needs stronger backing and greater resources than the current non-profit board appears able to offer. Therefore, in order to move this valuable asset forward and not lose this opportunity, we recommend that the Council take steps towards this goal. They could include bringing it back in-house, assign staff responsibility, and develop operational goals and timelines, and routinely review and metric progress. 2. Krabloonik-We agree with Mayor Boineau's recent suggestion to schedule an agenda item at an upcoming Council meeting concerning Krabloonik and to invite all interested parties and stakeholders to participate in the public discussion. In conjunction to this process, we think it would be beneficial if the Town were to conduct a short Snowmass Community survey to determine where the full and part-time residents of this community stand on the spectrum of issues related to Krabloonik. 3. Strategic Planning Session - In connection with our efforts to identify objectives and priorities which are pertinent to part-time residents for PTRAB to work on in 2014 we have reviewed the recently completed Community Survey and the Council's 2013 Strategic Plan. We have identified the six items listed below in order of priority to our constituents and would recommend that you consider these items and their priority during your mid-April Strategic Planning Session: #1. The Entry way #2. The importance of the trail/Trail system enhancement #3. Ensure a vibrant and safe community #3. Recreation Services #4. Support a Healthy Sustainable Resort Community #5. Responsible development and maintenance of the built environment and Town infrastructure Respectfully submitted, Nancy Shapiro, PTRAB Chairperson Town of Snowmass Village• P.O.Box 5010•Snowmass Village,Colorado 81615•970.923.3777 •fax 970.923.6083 •www.tosv.com
